Pure Nails

Salon Safety tips:

This handout is a guideline to determine whether the salon is providing quality, safe, and pleasant experiences.

Is the nail technician and salon licensed?  Most states require that the license be displayed.

Before manicurist perform a service on a client.  A client consultation is recommended.

Sanitation:

- Don’t be afraid to ask nail technicians how the implements have been disinfected.

- Nail Technicians should wipe manicure table with approved sanitizer

-Table cloth are to be changed after each customer.

-Implements are to be disinfected with Barbarcide or EPA approved products at least 10 minutes after each customer. Alcohol, bleach and UV sanitizer and sterilizer are not disinfectants. 

-Glass that contains cotton soaked with blue Barbarcide water is not acceptable.  If Barbarcide contacts the skin directly, it can cause an allergic reaction.

-Nail technicians must sanitize their hands (antibacterial soap or 70% alcohol) before servicing, then yours.

Manicure Service:

If customers have any nail diseases (fungus, skin disorders), manicure treatment is not recommended.

Cutting cuticle causes an increase in callusing and chance to get bacteria infection, except loose skin, hangnails. 

Pedicure:

Don’t shave your legs for at least 24 hours before a pedicure. 

If customers have any nail diseases (fungus, mold, skin disorders, cuts), pedicure treatment is not recommended.

If there is a customer using the footbath (pedicure station) before you, the footbath should be disinfected at least 10 minutes with barbarcide or an approved disinfectant.

Credo blade increases callusing. Use pumice stone and foot file immediately after drying off. Most of pumice stone can’t disinfect. It’s for personal use only. Apply foot lotion with sock to keep skin moisture.

Acrylic Nail: 

-Are acrylics safe?  Yes, all nail services are safe when performed by properly trained technician with product knowledge. The more educated nail technicians will not damage your hands with enhancements. Poorly trained nail technicians do. 

-Don’t let nail technician use electric drills to file your natural nail plate.  Only hand file is recommended.  Electric drill is used to file on acrylic application or fill or backfill.

- For removing the acrylic application, don’t let nail technicians pop it up, nip with nipper.

Soak with acetone is recommended.

M.M.A(methyl methacrylate) is banned acrylic liquid (monomer). When client remove acrylic with Acetone, It won’t melt, this can be the sign of MMA .  MMA monomer price is 75% cheaper than legalize monomer.  You have to watch out for what you pay for.

Physical reaction after receiving acrylic set:

 if your fingers burn itch or hurt after receiving nail services, this can be MMA Exposure.

Don’t let monomer liquid touch your skin.

Clients with flat, ridged or uneven nail plate, plastic nail tips are not recommended. Sculpture nails are recommended.

Gels:  What is the difference between gels and acrylics? 

Gels are pre-mixed odorless acrylics almost always need to be cured under a U.V lamp. There are two types of gels, removable gels and un-removable gels.  Acrylics usually has odor, but it will dry by its self.  However new technology has created odorless acrylic monomer (liquid),

Waxing:

Nail technicians can only wax arm and feet.  But Cosmetologist and Esthetician can perform waxing services.
